Constructed on the original site of Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, The Fairmont Copley Plaza was named in honor of the great American painter John Copley (1738 - 1774). The hotel's architect, Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, also designed The Plaza Hotel in New York. These sister hotels share the double "P" monogram, which can be found along the building's exterior, in the ballroom and on doorknobs throughout the hotel.
